„I came to know outstanding personalities, extraordinary stories and concepts of life as well as an artistry so free that it cannot exist in galleries. And I realized: Antaris is much more than just a festival. It is global cohesion, it is a family.“ – Katja Kirseck

Electronic dance music had its commercial breakthrough in the late 1980s and is still captivating millions of fans today. With the beginning of the ’90s, a genre emerged which is now known as Goa trance or psytrance.

This music, which cannot be locked in a club, but is experienced much more intensely open air and loudly, is where the roots of the Antaris Project Festival lie. First held as an open air in 1993, it is one of the oldest festivals of the international Goa and psytrance scene and brings together people from all over the world every year on the worldwide oldest airfield between Hamburg and Berlin.

In addition to the music, another connecting element is the desire for friendship, peace and freedom. It is no coincidence that psytrance is rooted in Goa, the Indian federal state which used to attract hippies from all over the world. For these special open-air experiences decoration artists from all over the world create complete psychedelic worlds in the open countryside.

Collective dancing as an expression of a philosophy of life, responsible handling of nature, to welcome strangers with respect and warmth in order to make them friends – these characteristics of the Antaris Project Festival are reminiscent the almost forgotten heritage of the so-called flower people.

To create a filmic memorial of the psytrance culture Uwe Siebert, organizer of the Antaris Project Festival, asked the Filmmaker Katja Kirseck and handed to her a hard disk with more than one thousand hours of archive material.

For months she screened, structured, sorted, archived, transcribed, made additional interviews and, as a psytrance novice, she delved deeply into the lifestyle of this global scene.

This is how 25 YEARS was created, a documentary based on a globally active psytrance movement and portraying a very special festival, its wonderful initiators and its multicultural followers.

The film was made to encourage people to be the best version of themselves. 25 YEARS is aimed at all good souls who, despite all adversities in life, never give up.

Deutsch:
